VisionTV invites Canadian producers to submit dramedy series proposals
TORONTO – VisionTV, Canada’s multi-faith and multicultural television network, is inviting Canadian independent producers to submit proposals for an original half-hour comedy-drama series to be broadcast in fall 2010. The deadline for submissions is June 15, 2009. VisionTV is seeking to commission a series of between six and 13 episodes. The proposed series must reflect Canada’s cultural diversity, and appeal to VisionTV’s core demographic of female-skewing viewers aged 50-plus. The proposed budget range is $200,000 to $300,000 per episode. VisionTV hopes to see principal photography wrapped by the end of March 2010, with a view to broadcasting the completed series in the fall of that year. The call for proposals also emphasizes the need for a Web-based interactive component that includes the streaming of full episodes online. Submissions must be emailed to comedy-drama-proposals@s-vox.com. For detailed guidelines and the release form, please visit www.visiontv.ca. VisionTV’s first venture into original Canadian drama production, the family drama series SOUL, made its broadcast premiere in February 2009. The six-part series, which was produced for VisionTV by the independent production company Halifax Film, will be rebroadcast this summer on Monday nights at 9 p.m. ET, starting June 15. Said Mark Prasuhn, Chief Operating Officer for VisionTV’s parent company S-VOX: “We are eager to receive proposals from all regions of the country. Although we are a small and independent broadcaster, we have a long track record of working collaboratively with independent producers from across Canada. We are deeply committed to supporting unique, original comedy and drama that speaks to the lives and experiences of our viewers, and that will add to the diversity of programming choices available on Canadian television.” Added Joan Jenkinson, S-VOX Director of Independent Production: “The experience of developing SOUL deepened our appreciation for the wealth of independent production talent in this country, and proved to us that it is possible to create high-quality Canadian drama programming on a modest budget. We are excited about this new initiative and look forward to receiving some innovative and imaginative submissions.” VisionTV (www.visiontv.ca), an S-VOX company, is Canada’s multi-faith and multicultural broadcaster, dedicated to entertaining and insightful programming that celebrates diversity and promotes understanding and tolerance among people of different faiths and cultures. |
