VisionTV programs capture three Gemini Awards
Three programs produced in association with VisionTV have received honours at this year’s Gemini Industry Awards. The spiritual gardening series Recreating Eden earned the Gemini for Best Writing in an Information Program or Series. The award went to Donna Gall for the episode “A Garden in the Sky.” Recreating Eden is produced for VisionTV by Merit Motion Pictures of Winnipeg. Merit Jensen Carr is the Executive Producer. The controversial feature-length documentary The Lost Tomb of Jesus won the Gemini for Best Sound in an Information/Documentary Program or Series. The award went to Amir Boverman and Ric Jurgens. The Lost Tomb of Jesus was produced by Toronto-based Associated Producers. It was executive produced by Oscar winner James Cameron (Titanic), and directed by Emmy Award winner Simcha Jacobovici (The Naked Archaeologist, Charging the Rhino). VisionTV presents a special rebroadcast of The Lost Tomb of Jesus on Monday, Nov. 12 at 9 p.m. and midnight ET/6 p.m. and 9 p.m. PT. The documentary repeats on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. The documentary series Gospel Challenge won the Gemini Award for Best Sound in A Comedy, Variety or Performing Arts Program or Series. Richard Spence-Thomas, Danny Greenspoon, Peter Hamilton, Jamie Sulek and Gary Vaughan received the award for the final episode, “The Concert.” In Gospel Challenge, conductors in Halifax, Montreal and Toronto were given just one week to assemble and prepare amateur choirs for a once-in-a-lifetime live performance. The series was produced for VisionTV by Toronto-based Riddle Films. Jason Charters and Liam Romalis produced and directed. In total, VisionTV programs received nine Gemini Award nominations in 2007.
