VisionTV receives four Gemini Award nominations

TORONTO – VisionTV programming has earned four nominations for the 24th Annual Gemini Awards, which honour the best in Canadian English-language television.

Said Bill Roberts, President and CEO of VisionTV’s parent company S-VOX: “We are privileged to collaborate with some of Canada’s finest independent producers, and we salute those whose work has received such well-deserved recognition.”

Added Mr. Roberts: “This is a tribute as well to the tireless efforts of our Chief Content Officer and Acting Chief Operating Officer Mark Prasuhn, and our Director of Independent Production Joan Jenkinson, both of whom are passionately committed to supporting the best in original Canadian programming.”

SOUL, an original drama series that premiered on VisionTV in February 2009, received two nominations. The six-part series starred Canadian R&B artist Keshia Chanté as a young gospel singer torn between church and family and the temptations of fame.

Mpho Koaho, who played music producer Jamil Foster, was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Supporting Role in a Dramatic Series.

Floyd Kane also earned a nomination for Best Writing in a Dramatic Series for scripting the episode “Fathers and Daughters.”

SOUL was produced for VisionTV by Halifax Film. The Executive Producers were Floyd Kane, Peter Lauterman, Michael Donovan and Charles Bishop. Joan Jenkinson was the Executive Producer for VisionTV.

Driven By Vision, a show about eccentric visionaries who create unusual handmade monuments and shrines, received a nomination for Best Direction in a Documentary Series. Michael McNamara was nominated for the episode “Of Castles, Kings and Jesters.”

Driven By Vision was produced for VisionTV by Markham Street Films Inc, and premiered in March 2009. Judy Holm and Michael McNamara were the producers. Joan Jenkinson was the Executive Producer for VisionTV.

The documentary anthology series I Prophesy: The Future Revealed earned a nomination for Best Cross Platform Project. Toronto-based interactive media production company The Secret Location (www.thesecretlocation.com) created an innovative online extension for this series, which reveals how scientists, authors and intellectuals envision humanity’s future.

The I Prophesy interactive experience (www.iprophesy.net) launched in January 2009. The Executive Producers were James Milward and Sissy Federer-Less.
