Reports to:
Manager Master Control, Technical Operations Dept.
Purpose:
To be responsible for on-air presentation (playback) and signal monitoring for S-VOX, working shift rotations that cover a 24/7 operation. On alternate shifts the position works in Ingest, digitizing content to servers for screening, editing and/or playback, ensures digitized content meets technical quality standards, and enters content data into the Media Asset Management System. The position also runs duplication using various media formats: video and audio editing. The position works with Producers or independently using shot lists, depending on the project; and Marketing, Programming and Traffic to manage the placement, rotation and assist in the development of on-air promotional campaigns for broadcast.
Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for on-air presentation (playback) and signal monitoring.  The position works in shifts i.e. days, nights, weekends and holidays and may require extended hours, weekends and evenings in keeping with production schedules to cover a 24/7 operation.  The position rotates being on call to cover shifts for the other Master Control operators if required.

  2. Ensure continual presence of scheduled video and audio, and where required closed captioning and descriptive video, on the output of Master Control and on the satellite and cable returns.   Report signal loss according to procedures.

  3. Create and amend automation files and branding instructions to suit client needs for on-air presentation.

  4. Ensure continual logger recording for all channels. 

  5. Confirm playback of primary and secondary events, making notations on the printed logs.  Report any discrepancies, faults or errors according to procedures.

  6. Digitize content to the Production Server as required for broadcast, editing, and the creation of low-res browse for screening according to established procedures (including dub lists and packaging updates), and in cooperation with the Managers of Post Production, Traffic and Mosaic Programming.

  7. Catalogue content, entering and/or confirming data about the content in the Media Asset Management System.

  8. Duplicate various types of media.

  9. Maintain equipment and software in a state suitable and available for use, by ensuring their proper operating condition, cleanliness and safekeeping.

  10. Follow main and back up procedures for Master Control and Ingest.

  11. Maintain communication and effective working relationships with Traffic, Library, Programming, Production, Marketing and Engineering.
Requirements:

  • Specialized television industry and technical knowledge related to television recording and production procedures, techniques and audio/video equipment, production technical standards, sound recording and editing procedures.
  • Operations and theoretical television production knowledge. 
  • Experience with Automation software, Ingest Module of MAM and/or digital archives preferred; e-mail & word processing.
